Why is a Normatec so expensive?

Why is a Normatec so expensive?

'Why is a Normatec so expensive' is probably the question I get asked the most when speaking to potential customers.

Normatecs vary in price but when the Normatec 2.0 starts at £899 and the Normatec 2.0 PRO goes up to a 'scary' £1824 for a full-body system, I can see why it's the first question that comes to mind.

Now, I know you'll probably think I’m lying with what I’m about to say, but I feel I need to say it… currently the Normatec systems are currently really well priced!

In fact, they are the best value they have ever been here in the UK.

When I, or should I say my company, RecoverFit, first brought Normatec systems into the UK around 6 or 7 years ago now,the prices were nearly DOUBLE.

But we have worked hard with Normatec, who are now owned by Hyperice, to make them as affordable as possible here in the UK.

But Ryan, why are they still so expensive?

Well, there are various reasons…

The Normatec Attachments

First of all, let's talk about the Normatec attachments. The Normatec  attachments are made from a medical-grade material (meaning they don't hold any bacteria and are super durable). They have overlapping chambers, all of the air pipes are concealed and secured so no leaks can occur during the treatment and my personal favourite... the zip! The zip is bloody strong and can take the full force of the compression no problem, so there's no popping open mid-session.

Now, you’re probably thinking 'so what?'

All the other brands’ attachments look the same?! BUT if you ever get the chance to see them side by side, you'll say, "AHHH, now I know what you’re on about Ryan" 😅

The Normatec Control Unit

Then there's the Control Unit, which is where the air gets pumped from. The control unit has so many benefits, but one thing the Normatec 2.0 stands out in its class for is its robustness. Many customers that have some sort of athletic prowess are using the device in changing rooms, on team coaches, on the sofa at home or pretty much anywhere viable, and trust me, however much you want to look after your Normatec,  it can take a tumble off the sofa or fall off the poof (even if it was thanks to the dog!)

The team, based in Boston USA, behind building Normatec, have looked at every component and tried to make it as sturdy as possible. From how the screen is attached, to even how the circuit board is cushioned just in case there is that accidental 'OH NO' moment!

The control unit is also so easy to use, it has clear on-screen imagery that displays what the treatment is currently focusing on, the compression intensity and the time adjustment is really simple to change. With both the Normatec 2.0 and the 2.0 PRO you get to customise not only the time and compression level but you can set the rest time between cycles. you have the choice of 'Normatec Pulse' mode or 'Sequential' mode, you can easily turn off each individual air chamber and you have ZoneBoost which allows you to select the current compression zone, increase the pressure and/or the time to really give, let’s say the ankle a little more TLC.

Then with the Normatec 2.0 PRO unit, you can then take that customisation to the next level, but let's leave that to a separate article.

The Normatec Treatment Modes

In the previous paragraph, I mentioned the 'Normatec Pulse' mode. The Normatec Pulse mode is what sets Normatec apart from the rest, excluding any hardware or attachments. The patented 'Normatec Pulse' mode is what the team at Normatec HQ and I, really think puts Normatec into a league of its own. 'Normatec Pulse' mode has been scientifically researched and produced to give the highest level of compression in the correct scientific way.

The Normatec Compression Levels

Moving onto the compression levels. My favourite quote which gets a few laughs from customers when talking about the compression levels is, "The bigger isn't always better"

Yes yes, it always gets a few sniggers, but it's true!

Normatecs max compression level is 110 mmHg (Millimeter of Mercury or how we measure pressure)

"But Ryan, other compression boots on the market advertise much bigger compression numbers than this."

Well, first of all, I’d ask, are the numbers actually calculated from a reliable source? I’ve tried many different compression boots that claim they have 200-300 mmHg and I’ve felt they have had nowhere near the same compression as the Normatec system.

Furthermore,  It also really isn't about the 'more compression the better the treatment'. Infact research suggests the opposite, with rather a focus on how the compression is given, the time used and if you are using the Normatec to warm up or are in full recovery mode.

Now don't get me wrong, I used to be a professional athlete, so I know how most athletes work and especially for recovery, 9 times out of 10 you'd crank it up on full compression and sit on the sofa for as long as you can get away with before your partner either starts making sarcastic comments or you actually need to go to bed as you have work or training the next day.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that the Normatec gives all the compression you ever need and more. Trust me, it gets insanely tight on the top levels. But like I mentioned above, you don't always need it for fast recovery

Normatec and RecoverFit Support

Finally, a crucial benefit of the Normatec is the warranty and support. Hyperice is a worldwide brand. You have peace of mind that if there ever was something wrong with your device or you lost your charger and needed a new one, wherever you are in the world, you can protect your recovery  investment and either get it fixed quickly or buy that accessory you desperately need! In most circumstances,  to really simplify the process, deal with any warranty swap outs and/or repairs that need to be done we (RecoverFit) will usually deal with this for you!

So before I completely bore you with my knowledge and passion for a Normatec (I’m sad I know!), I’m going to sign off and say thank you for reading this article/blog post. I totally understand the Normatec recovery boots aren’t for everyone and they are a big investment for the majority of our customers, but in my honest opinion there are clear reasons why they are the market leaders in the compression recovery boot sector and fully justify their price tag!

I'm going to try and produce more insightful pieces across our Instagram channel and across our website about all our products so please keep an eye out and give it some love by sharing it or shouting about it on your socials!
