Hypervolt vs Theragun: Which massage gun is best for your recovery?

Hypervolt vs Theragun: Which massage gun is best for your recovery?

No matter what stage of the fitness journey you are on there are always different ways that you can optimise your training. Recovery is growing as a discipline. More people are becoming aware of the importance of recovery, it is a daily practice that needs attention if you want to optimise your performance.

Hypervolt and Theragun are both good options

Premium products like the Hypervolt and Theragun are both going to provide a good amount of performance when compared to more entry-level massage guns. In this week’s blog, we pit these competing massage guns against each other to find out which one is best for your recovery.

Round 1: Performance

The performance of the massage gun in question is very important when it comes to determining its usefulness for your needs. The feel and performance of both the Hypervolt and the Theragun are very good and will beat a lot of other massage guns on the market.

In terms of the numbers, the Theragun slightly edges the Hypervolt in terms of power, providing 60-pounds of force compared to the 40-pound strokes offered by the Hypervolt. The Hypervolt in many sense provides more of a massage focused experience.

This performance is important but it is not the deciding factor. For many users, 40-pounds of force will be more than ample when it comes to spot-targeting muscle soreness and providing quick tension relief.

Winner: Theragun

Round 2: Aesthetics and design

Round 2 is somewhat subjective but the aesthetics of a massage gun are very important. Design impacts both the ergonomics and comfort of using the product. In our experience, the Theragun does offer a more natural grip but the unusual design will not be to everyone’s tastes.

The Hypervolt follows a more traditional design and will look more attractive to many consumers. It is also worth noting that the Hypervolt has a light that shows it is turned on; a handy feature that will make sure you do not leave it on and draining power.

Winner: Hypervolt

Round 3: Price

For many price is going to be a big determining factor when it comes to which massage gun to buy. As previously stated, both the Hypervolt and the Theragun are premium products and as such come in at a higher price than other models on the market.

The Theragun Elite currently retails for around the £375 mark with the Hypervolt coming in at £349. The price points are close but not enough to call it a dead heat. This round goes to the Hypervolt.

Winner: Hypervolt

Round 4: Charging and portability

The portability of a massage gun is a key factor, especially if you are going to be out and about and what to bring the massage gun in your gym bag with you.

Both the Hypervolt and the Theragun offer somewhat larger batteries in terms of charging. The Theragun comes with two interchangeable batteries which are handy if you often forget to charge. However, the Hypervolt offers one longer-lasting battery which is less cumbersome and offers greater versatility in terms of portability.

It is also worth noting in this round that the Hypervolt is far quieter than the Theragun. It is one of the key selling points and why it remains such a popular product for us. The quietness means you won’t bring the attention of the whole gym or changing room if you decide to give your muscles some relief!

Winner: Hypervolt

The Hypervolt Wins: 3-1

So on this day, the Hypervolt won. The quieter motor and better overall portability and changeability mean that it is a more attractive option for a wider group of people. That being said the Theragun is still a good option and the additional power and performance is an attractive feature.

Remember, that whilst both the Hypervolt and Theragun are good tools in your recovery arsenal, you need to have the basics down if you want to really improve your recovery game.
